2014 – 2015 PSSP PD Day: February 13, 2015
Just under 400 PSSP members registered at Satec@WAPorter CI for our professional development day on Feb 13th. There were 14 workshops in the afternoon, mostly presented by PSSP members. Thanks to all who attended and to all those presenters who took their own time to prepare workshops for their colleagues.
PSSP: Working Together to Support Students’ Mental Health & Well-Being is the theme of our day. The key note presentation will last for the morning with senior Ministry of Education & Children and Youth Services staff, as well as PSSP staff. The workshops run from 1pm – 3 pm. The day will be held at SATEC @ WAPorter CI, 40 Fairfax Crescent, Scarborough. It is two blocks north of the Warden subway station. Please take TTC if you can as the school has parking, but not enough for more than 500 participants who will participate.
Workshop information and an agenda was sent via TDSB emails to all PSSP members registered with us on January 26, 2015. The registration form will be sent Jan 27 when it opens. Registration closes on Feb 5.
Boundary Issues for Support Staff was presented by OSSTF to Child & Youth Services on Dec 20, 2014 for the morning with almost 300 members in attendance.
Professional Development is not currently funded by the Ministry of Education the way it was in the 2008 – 2012 contract years. The union provides PD to members in alternate years during the month of February.
We will also provide some small group sessions on topics of interest to the membership.
2012 – 2013: Our PSSP Professional Development day took place on February 15, 2013 with the theme: It’s About You: Gaining Strength, New Skills, and a New Outlook
The union-sponsored day took place at Earl Haig Secondary School with over 400 members in attendance. Your evaluations ranked it as one of the best yet, with the exception of the parking mess, of course! All those members who submitted parking receipts for Feb 15th have been reimbursed.
