Voluntary Unpaid Leave of Absence Program (VLAP)*

Monday, September, 16th, 2013 by koadmin

This is a voluntary program available to all PSSP members.   You may take up to 5 unpaid days this school year only as per the conditions listed on the VLAP form*.

Please click on form: PSSP VLAP form

The purpose of this plan, which was included in the MOU, is to allow savings for school boards by allowing staff to take off up to one week of work without pay. For those members who applied by July, your deductions will be taken off your pay starting in October.  For those who apply this school year, your pay will be deducted in the pay period in which you take the days.

*This program has pension implications.  The downside is that you will be required to pay back your pension contribution AND the employer’s cost for each unpaid day.  Look at your pay stub to see how much is taken from each pay and divide by 10 to get the daily pension rate.  While we are paid the employer pays 50% and we pay 50% of OMERS.  For any unpaid day you must pay 100% of OMERS in order to maintain your pension for those days.
